Infrared fibers
Infrared fibers

... glass (ChG) fiber made of the IR glass arsenic trisulfide (As2 S3 ) was reported [9]. This early success also highlighted two shortcomings that have been associated with IR fibers since—high optical losses (>10 dB∕m in the wavelength range 2–8 μm [9]) and the lack of mechanical robustness. Dramatic ...

... Most present TS experiments employ Q-switched ruby or Nd:YAG lasers as the source. The ruby laser operating at 694.3 nm produces outputs up to 25 J in 15 ns However, their repetition rate is usually rather low: 5 Hz (1 J / pulse). When more than several pulses per minute are required, an intracavity ...

... Binocular disparity, or stereopsis, occurs when each eye views a scene from a slightly different angle. Our brain is highly efficient at meshing two 2D scenes into one coherent depth-perceived visual response. This is perhaps the most striking depth cue, and is why holograms seem so real. There have ...

... Kovanis, Air Force Research Lab. (United States) The 3-dB modulation bandwidth and linewidth enhancement factor (LEF) of a semiconductor laser both directly benefit from an increased differential optical, which is typically improved through the use of strain, quantum confinement, or p-type doping in ...

Nanoreplicated positive and inverted submicrometer polymer

... Figure 1 is a cross section sketch of the fabrication process of positive and inverted replica SERS substrates. All the replication processes are carried out using low forces at room temperature to produce a large area of uniform sub-micrometer structure in several minutes. First of all, we obtained ...

Retroreflector

A retroreflector (sometimes called a retroflector or cataphote) is a device or surface that reflects light back to its source with a minimum of scattering. In a retroreflector an electromagnetic wavefront is reflected back along a vector that is parallel to but opposite in direction from the wave's source. The angle of incidence at which the device or surface reflects light in this way is greater than zero, unlike a planar mirror, which does this only if the mirror is exactly perpendicular to the wave front, having a zero angle of incidence.
