Beam Dynamics in PT Symmetric Optical Lattices
Beam Dynamics in PT Symmetric Optical Lattices

... This last relation indicates that parity-time symmetry requires that the real part of the complex potential involved must be an even function of position whereas the imaginary component should be odd. While the implications of P T symmetry in the above mentioned fields are still under consideration, ...

LASERS How do they work?

... In a ruby laser, a rod of ruby is irradiated with the intense flash of light from xenon-filled flashtubes. Light in the green and blue regions of the spectrum is absorbed by chromium ions, raising the energy of electrons of the ions from the ground state level to one of the broad F bands of levels. ...

Optical Properties of Lithium - Zinc – Boro- MolybdateGlass

... Electronic polarizability of an ion is related to properties of the material such as refraction, conductivity, optical nonlinearity along with optical basicity and is of significant interest in the study on polarization state of ions in crystalline and amorphous materials [VesselinDimitrov[15]. The ...

In particular, by not limiting the sampling scheme to small, compact regions of the aperture, we conjectured that it may be possible to trade extraneous angular resolution for spatial resolution while maintaining a large axial field of view. We thus ...

Harold Hopkins (physicist)

Harold Horace Hopkins FRS (1918–1994) was a renowned British physicist. His Wave Theory of Aberrations, (published by Oxford University Press 1950), is central to all modern optical design and provides the mathematical analysis which enables the use of computers to create the wealth of high quality lenses available today. In addition to his theoretical work, his many inventions are in daily use throughout the world. These include zoom lenses, coherent fibre-optics and more recently the rod-lens endoscopes which 'opened the door' to modern key-hole surgery. He was the recipient of many of the world's most prestigious awards and was twice nominated for a Nobel Prize. His citation on receiving the Rumford Medal from the Royal Society in 1984 stated: ""In recognition of his many contributions to the theory and design of optical instruments, especially of a wide variety of important new medical instruments which have made a major contribution to clinical diagnosis and surgery.""
