... The results of recent studies performed in the Centro de Investigaciones en Optica (Leon, Mexico) in the field of diode-pumped Erbium fiber lasers (EFL) engineering are presented. The main attention is paid to an inspection of pulsed regimes of the EFL, which have been realized applying various pass ...

... The image of M1 appears in line with M2 and may be either in front of or behind M2 (see Fig. 2). The complete theory, which must take into account the fact that the source is an extended source, shows that when M2, and the image of M1 are parallel, then monochromatic light produces an interference p ...

Polarization rotation of slow light with orbital angular momentum in

... Light can be slowed down by seven orders of magnitude using the electromagnetically induced transparency 共EIT兲 关1–3兴. The EIT makes a resonant, opaque medium transparent by means of quantum interference between the optical transitions induced by the control and probe laser fields. As a result, a wea ...

Does the nonlinear Schrodinger equation correctly describe beam

... light beams in nonlinear media were predicted in the early 1960's.1-3 The evolution of light beams in self-focusing media has been described by the parabolic equation [the nonlinear Schr6dinger equation (NLSE)] since the first studies devoted to this question.4 5 This equation takes diffraction and ...

Optimization of multilayer reflectors for extreme ultraviolet lithography

A likely candidate for volume production of integrated circuits is extreme ultraviolet 共EUV兲 lithography, which is an extension of optical lithography techniques into EUV wavelengths.1 These systems ...

Frequency-Domain Spectroscopy Using 280 nm and 300 nm

... The spectra of the 280-nm and 300-nm LEDs are shown in Figure 1. The full width at halfmaximum (FWHM) is about 10-nm in each case. Harold Hopkins (physicist)

Harold Horace Hopkins FRS (1918–1994) was a renowned British physicist. His Wave Theory of Aberrations, (published by Oxford University Press 1950), is central to all modern optical design and provides the mathematical analysis which enables the use of computers to create the wealth of high quality lenses available today. In addition to his theoretical work, his many inventions are in daily use throughout the world. These include zoom lenses, coherent fibre-optics and more recently the rod-lens endoscopes which 'opened the door' to modern key-hole surgery. He was the recipient of many of the world's most prestigious awards and was twice nominated for a Nobel Prize. His citation on receiving the Rumford Medal from the Royal Society in 1984 stated: ""In recognition of his many contributions to the theory and design of optical instruments, especially of a wide variety of important new medical instruments which have made a major contribution to clinical diagnosis and surgery.""
