MT-081 TUTORIAL RMS-to-DC Converters

... It is subdivided into four major sections: absolute value circuit (active rectifier), squarer/divider, current mirror, and buffer amplifier. The input voltage VIN, which can be ac or dc, is converted to a unipolar current, I1, by the absolute value circuit A1, A2. I1 drives one input of the one-quad ...

... Due to large amounts of energy stored in the motor coils during operation, a voltage spike of several hundred volts is generated when the breaker is turned OFF. This diode surpresses this spike which protects the connected motor controller and DC-DC converters. Cathode (i.e. banded end) MUST face po ...

Another advantage is that it dissipates very little power, about 10 fW. This is important if the amplifier is to be ...

Metadyne

A metadyne is a direct current electrical machine with two pairs of brushes. It can be used as an amplifier or rotary transformer. It is similar to a third brush dynamo but has additional regulator or ""variator"" windings. It is also similar to an amplidyne except that the latter has a compensating winding which fully counteracts the effect of the flux produced by the load current. The technical description is ""a cross-field direct current machine designed to utilize armature reaction"". A metadyne can convert a constant-voltage input into a constant-current, variable-voltage output.
