... The energy (E) of EDLCs is described by the equation E=1/2CV2, where C and V are the capacitance and operative voltage of the EDLCs, respectively. Considering this expression, it appears evident that the most convenient way to increase the energy of EDLCs is to increase the operative voltage of thes ...

... One last note… There are two types of current. DC (direct current) means it flows in one direction such as the current from a battery. AC (alternating current) means that it alternates the direction of flow. In the case of home electric circuits, they alternate at 60 Hz. As fun as it sounds AC is a ...

... 2. Thyristors are basically electronic switches that command the energy flux from the source to the load. In the 1st quadrant they have two distinct zones. In the first zone, the thyristor presents a high resistance (ideally, it can be considered as an open circuit): the thyristor is blocked (OFF st ...

Buck converter

A buck converter is a voltage step down and current step up converter. The simplest way to reduce the voltage of a DC supply is to use a linear regulator (such as a 7805), but linear regulators waste energy as they operate by dissipating excess power as heat. Buck converters, on the other hand, can be remarkably efficient (95% or higher for integrated circuits), making them useful for tasks such as converting the main voltage in a computer (12V in a desktop, 12-24V in a laptop) down to the 0.8-1.8V needed by the processor.
