... At the end of July, a group at Bonn University’s ELSA accelerator, an electron-beam facility similar to Jefferson Lab, piled on with yet another confirmation of the 1540-MeV particle.4 This time the evidence is a 4.8peak in the K+ n mass distribution from the reaction ...

... The daughter nuclides produced by -decay or - are often obtained in an excited state. The excess energy associated with this excited state is released when the nucleus emits a photon in the -ray portion of the electromagnetic spectrum. Most of the time, the -ray is emitted within 10-12 seconds aft ...

... One way of systematizing the structure of the periodic table is to draw an “energy level” diagram for a hypothetical atom. The order of the levels tells the order of the filling of shells. Note that we do not have an actual level diagram for any actual atom and therfore we do not put any actual nume ...

DESY

The Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (english German Electron Synchrotron) commonly referred to by the abbreviation DESY, is a national research center in Germany that operates particle accelerators used to investigate the structure of matter. It conducts a broad spectrum of inter-disciplinary scientific research in three main areas: particle and high energy physics; photon science; and the development, construction and operation of particle accelerators. Its name refers to its first project, an electron synchrotron. DESY is publicly financed by the Federal Republic of Germany, the States of Germany, and the German Research Foundation (DFG). DESY is a member of the Helmholtz Association and operates at sites in Hamburg and Zeuthen.
