... Global warming is a process of increasing the average temperature of the atmosphere, ocean, and land earth. Global average temperature at the earth's surface has risen 0.74 + 0,180C (1.33 + 0,320F) during the last hundred. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concludes that "Most of the ...

... The term "heat island" describes built up areas that are hotter than nearby rural areas. The annual mean air temperature of a city with 1 million people or more can be 1.8–5.4°F (1–3°C) warmer than its surroundings. In the evening, the difference can be as high as 22°F (12°C). Heat islands can affec ...

Instrumental temperature record

The instrumental temperature record shows fluctuations of the temperature of earth's climate system. Initially the instrumental temperature record only documented land and sea surface temperature, but in recent decades instruments have also begun recording ocean temperature. Data is collected from thousands of meteorological stations around the globe and through satellite observations. The longest-running temperature record is the Central England temperature data series, that starts in 1659. The longest-running quasi-global record starts in 1850.
