Modeling Earth`s Climate Teacher Guide
Modeling Earth`s Climate Teacher Guide

... The graph does not indicate stability, but it does indicate cyclic regularity. It is an unstable climate (ups and downs), but the cycles occur in a regular repeating pattern. Q. Describe how current climate trends (as shown in the 120-year graph on the last page) MIGHT change the pattern of warming ...

Beyond the Tipping Point: Understanding Perceptions of Abrupt

... The different ways in which the uncertain science and speculative impacts of abrupt climate changes are interpreted inevitably extends to the ways in which they and the risks they pose are communicated across societies. Such uncertainty is frequently deployed in climate change debates, as an argumen ...

If, for example, the total GHG emissions reduction required to meet a target were on the order of 10 or 15 percent, as would be the case if total GHG emissions in the United States were held at year 2000 levels through 2010, nearly all of the cost-effective reductions would come from the non-CO2 gr ...

... This Perspective paper sets out the case for adaptation as a core aspect of the global policy response to climate change. The case for adaptation is made through a set of six propositions. The Perspective paper argues that some adaptation is unavoidable. There are no realistic mitigation policies th ...

Climate sensitivity of shrub growth across the tundra biome

... In our study, climate sensitivity of shrub growth was greatest at the northern or elevational range margins of individual species (Fig. 3). Climate sensitivity of shrub growth was thus greatest at the transition zone between tall and low shrub tundra (Fig. 1). The largest ecosystem transitions in sh ...

IPCC Fourth Assessment Report

Climate Change 2007, the Fourth Assessment Report (AR4) of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), is the fourth in a series of reports intended to assess scientific, technical and socio-economic information concerning climate change, its potential effects, and options for adaptation and mitigation. The report is the largest and most detailed summary of the climate change situation ever undertaken, produced by thousands of authors, editors, and reviewers from dozens of countries, citing over 6,000 peer-reviewed scientific studies. It supersedes the Third Assessment Report (2001), and is superseded by the Fifth Assessment Report. The headline findings of the report were: ""warming of the climate system is unequivocal"", and ""most of the observed increase in global average temperatures since the mid-20th century is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas concentrations.""
