Cities and Climate Change: An Urgent Agenda

... Five Main Messages of the WDR 2010 stand out: Climate change threatens all countries, with developing countries being the most vulnerable. Developing countries are likely to bear 75 percent of the costs of damages produced by climate change. Even a 2 C warming above preindustrial levels could resu ...

Introduction - Department of the Environment

... In the last few years an ever increasing volume of literature, reflecting the increasing research, on climate change has been produced. Despite this, projections regarding effects on biodiversity are of a much generalised nature. The range of predictions regarding the changes to weather patterns and ...
Bird Species and Climate Change
Bird Species and Climate Change

... Climate change will also cause some of its most serious but least predictable impacts by shifting the timing of natural events and by shifting species’ geographical distributions. This will rearrange plant and animal communities and ecosystems, and disrupt birds’ relationships with predators, compet ...

The net negative represents competition between NOx-induced increases in O3 (warming) versus decreases in CH4 (cooling), which cause the GWP for nearer time periods (GWP10 or GWP20) to be positive. e From Bond et al. The end of the Pacific? Effects of sea level rise on Pacific Island

... The last 200 years of sea level change in the Pacific Islands There is evidence that global sea level began rising at the end of the Little Ice Age about 200 years ago (Jevrejeva et al., 2008) and has continued since, something established independently for the Pacific region (Nunn, 2007a). While sea ...

While a major driving factor for this is clearly to be found in recent warming trends, other processes also contribute to the reduction in snow, such as the influence of the North Atlantic Oscillation on the variability of the mountain snow-pack. With an ice volume of about 2.9 million km , the Greenland Ice Sheet has the potential to contribute much more to global sea-level rise than all of the other glaciers and ice caps combined (excluding the Antarctic Ice Sheet). If the entire Greenland Ice Sheet were to melt, sea level would rise by ab ...

IPCC Fourth Assessment Report

Climate Change 2007, the Fourth Assessment Report (AR4) of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), is the fourth in a series of reports intended to assess scientific, technical and socio-economic information concerning climate change, its potential effects, and options for adaptation and mitigation. The report is the largest and most detailed summary of the climate change situation ever undertaken, produced by thousands of authors, editors, and reviewers from dozens of countries, citing over 6,000 peer-reviewed scientific studies. It supersedes the Third Assessment Report (2001), and is superseded by the Fifth Assessment Report. The headline findings of the report were: ""warming of the climate system is unequivocal"", and ""most of the observed increase in global average temperatures since the mid-20th century is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas concentrations.""
