Independent effects of warming and nitrogen addition on plant
Independent effects of warming and nitrogen addition on plant

... will alter the sensitivity of plant phenology to climate warming. To our knowledge, little effort has been made to examine the effects of an interaction between warming and N addition on plant phenology (Cleland et al., 2006; Lupi et al., 2012; Smith et al., 2012). In an annual grassland in North Am ...

Underpinning these dimensions allows us to outline CIDSE’s overall vision of food and nutrition security which can truly address the three pillars on which ‘climate-smart agriculture’ is intended to be based. ... decrease in the mean annual surface global solar radiation between 1964 and 1990 under completely overcast skies. This result can be potentially explained by an increase in cloud optical thickness, changing cloud types, or by human impact on aerosol cloud-mediated processes. The collapse of the East ...

Fourth Carbon Budget Review – part 2

... We concluded that there had been no significant change in relation to these issues since we provided our original advice in December 2010. Based on those criteria, therefore, there is no legal or economic basis for a change in the budget at this time. We now come to the second part of our advice. Th ...

... As confirmation of the conclusion, eleven of the twelve years (1995 – 2006) rank among the warmest years in the instrumental record of global surface temperature5 (since 1850). The total temperature increase between 1850–1899 and 2001–2005 reached 0.76°C. The temperature of the world’s oceans has al ...

The number of spikelets at flowering is calculated from the total biomass accumulated from panicle initiation until first flowering (Kropff et al. 1994). ... Ecosystems can alternate suddenly between contrasting persistent states due to internal processes or external drivers. It is important to understand the mechanisms by which these shifts occur, especially in exploited ecosystems. There have been several abrupt marine ecosystem shifts attributed eithe ...

IPCC Fourth Assessment Report

Climate Change 2007, the Fourth Assessment Report (AR4) of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), is the fourth in a series of reports intended to assess scientific, technical and socio-economic information concerning climate change, its potential effects, and options for adaptation and mitigation. The report is the largest and most detailed summary of the climate change situation ever undertaken, produced by thousands of authors, editors, and reviewers from dozens of countries, citing over 6,000 peer-reviewed scientific studies. It supersedes the Third Assessment Report (2001), and is superseded by the Fifth Assessment Report. The headline findings of the report were: ""warming of the climate system is unequivocal"", and ""most of the observed increase in global average temperatures since the mid-20th century is very likely due to the observed increase in anthropogenic greenhouse gas concentrations.""
