Once the first stars ignited, the Universe was no longer the same temperature throughout – we had dense regions (nebulae that gave birth to stars) heating up to thousands or millions of Kelvin, and less dense regions that continued to cool (CMB is 2.7K today) Ions, and plasma, were back. Yeah! A ...

Lab # 28: Calculating the Value of the Ideal Gas Constant “R”
... Disposable plastic lighters are filled with lighter fluid, mostly butane (C4H10), which liquefies under pressure. In this lab, you will use the ideal gas law to calculate the value of the ideal gas constant “R”. We will collect a sample of gas from a lighter by water displacement. See Figure 1 for t ...

Microplasmas are plasmas of small dimensions, ranging from tens to thousands of micrometers. They can be generated at a variety of temperatures and pressures, existing as either thermal or non-thermal plasmas. Non-thermal microplasmas that can maintain their state at standard temperatures and pressures are readily available and accessible to scientists as they can be easily sustained and manipulated under standard conditions. Therefore, they can be employed for commercial, industrial, and medical applications, giving rise to the evolving field of microplasmas.
