The dynamics of visual responses in the primary visual cortex
The dynamics of visual responses in the primary visual cortex

... orientation tuning is, as in the Troyer et al. (1998) model, broadly tuned inhibition. The big difference between this model and that of Troyer et al. (1998) is that in the McLaughlin et al. model the inhibitory conductance input to a cell is phaseinsensitive (and not push–pull). This is a consequen ...

... Psychophysical experiments were performed to test normal observers’ ability to detect the tilt away from the horizontal, clockwise or counterclockwise, of configurations made up of line segments 5 arcmin long and Ç0.5 arcmin wide. Each segment could be independently rotated in 0.437 steps and placed ...

... Sexual dimorphism in the human bed nucleus of the stria terminalis. The nucleus (BNST) has significantly more neurons in men compared to women regardless of male sexual orientation. Similar to women, male-to-female transsexuals have fewer neurons than men. In the one female-to-male transsexual brain ...

Neuroscience and sexual orientation

Sexual orientation is an enduring pattern of romantic or sexual attraction (or a combination of these) to persons of the opposite sex or gender, the same sex or gender, or to both sexes or more than one gender. The ultimate causes and mechanisms of sexual orientation development in humans remain unclear and many theories are speculative and controversial. However, advances in neuroscience explain and illustrate characteristics linked to sexual orientation. Studies have explored structural neural-correlates, functional and/or cognitive relationships, and developmental theories relating to sexual orientation in humans.
