... T1 sees a pure AC sine wave, and to this AC signal, the —60 Vp appears as a ground. This means that for the positive half-cycle of the sine wave, Q3 would see a positive pulse, and Q4 would see a negative pulse. Both power transistors are NPN transistors, so a positive bias is needed at the base to ...

... This sends a low pulse to trigger pin 2 of IC2 to make its output pin 3 high. Consequently, the alarm circuit built around IC UM3561 (IC3) gets the supply voltage at its pin 5. Its output is fed to the base of single-stage transistor amplifier BD139 (T1) that amplifies the generated alarm signal. A ...

Tube sound

Tube sound (or valve sound) is the characteristic sound associated with a vacuum tube-based audio amplifier. After introduction of solid state amplifiers, tube sound appeared as the logical complement of transistor sound, which had some negative connotations due to crossover distortion of early transistor amplifiers. The audible significance of tube amplification on audio signals is a subject of continuing debate among audio enthusiasts. Many electric guitar, electric bass, and keyboard players in several genres also prefer the sound of tube instrument amplifiers or preamplifiers.
