(LQAF) England – Innovation Report
Please Note:
a) Use a separate form for each innovation you wish to report.
b) Your SHA library lead will advise you of the appropriate deadline for submissions.
1. Guidance on Innovation Categories
The 4 categories of innovation used in the LQAF that you can report against are:
Product Innovation concerns a product or service that is new or significantly improved. This includes
significant improvements in content, mode of delivery, user friendliness or other functional
characteristics.
Process innovation concerns a new or significantly improved way of producing or delivering a service or
product. This could include significant changes in techniques, equipment and/or software.
Marketing Innovation is about new marketing methods involving new or significantly improved ways of
marketing or promoting a library service or product.
Organisational Innovation involves introducing a new or improved way of organizing or managing the
library service, including working in partnership with other services, to increase overall performance and
productivity.
It would be helpful to review the innovations and good practice submissions at:
http://www.libraryservices.nhs.uk/wiki/Innovations.MainPage.ashx
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
Submissions considered “innovations” at a local or SHA level may be judged as “good practice”
at national level.
This is likely to happen when the judges are aware of the same thing or a very similar thing
happening in other library/knowledge services in the NHS.
2. The Innovation
This is where you should describe the innovation in detail, explain why you consider it is
innovative and provide evidence to support your assertion.

The films are particularly useful for health and social care staff who
are not based at the hospital but require access library services. This
includes large numbers of staff such as mental health staff (SEPT),
community based staff, GPs, Commissioning staff, Public health staff
etc.
Describe the impact this
has had
Describe and supply the
evidence you have to
support your
submission
The impact has not yet been evaluated but the potential to reach many staff
and to provide help with using the databases, anytime, anywhere has huge
implications for increasing effective access to NHS Resources.
The films are recently completed and therefore evaluation on impact is not
complete. The DVDs are sent out to all new staff, they will be available on
the website very soon.
