Benefits Summary
All fulltime employees of Douglas County School System are eligible for
benefits.
Certified employees are considered fulltime if they work at a
percentage of time of fifty percent or greater. Classified employees are
considered fulltime if they work at a percentage of time of sixty percent or
greater. All new employees are eligible for benefits on the 1st of the month
following 30 days of employment. New employees will be given a benefits
package and scheduled for a benefits induction session at their fingerprinting
appointment.
Open enrollment
Open enrollment will be held every year in the fall. The dates of open
enrollment are dictated by the state and will be communicated to all
employees as soon as the dates are determined. This is the only chance
employees will have to make a change to their insurance benefits unless they
experience a qualifying event. Employees will be given a summary of their
current elections by the benefits representative at their school. These
summaries will be the method for deleting any benefits for the next calendar
year. Any benefits that an employee wishes to add should also be noted on
this form. Employees wishing to add benefits MUST attend an open enrollment
meeting to complete additional paperwork for the addition of benefits. In
addition all employees will be required to go on-line to register for health
benefits. At the conclusion of open enrollment all employees will receive a
Summary of Benefits Statement showing their enrollment options. These will
be signed and returned to the Benefits Representative. Any changes that were
made at open enrollment that are not reflected on this statement should be
brought to the attention of the Benefits Specialist.
