Writing (Choose ONE): 50 pts.

An epic poem “is a long poem that tells a story of great adventure, usually relating
somehow to the development of a nation or race of people.” Consider your own personal
development (for example, your struggles, accomplishments, milestones) and write an
epic poem of your life. Minimum length: 250 words.

Think of yourself as the hero in your own life story. What “giants” do you have to
overcome and how do you deal with them? In a five paragraph essay, write about three
of these “giants” and how you managed to overcome them or plan to overcome them.

In The Odyssey, Odysseus’ men look to him for wisdom, guidance, and leadership. In a
five paragraph essay, write about how someone looks up to you for wisdom, guidance,
and/or leadership in three different ways.
This week’s challenge assignment: 30 bonus points – You must complete your required
homework assignments to get credit for this assignment.

Homer recorded The Odyssey at a time when the Greek people worshipped many gods –
which we now study as Greek mythology. Many of the words we use today were
originally from these stories. Find at least 10 of these words, their definitions, and their
connection to Greek mythology. Present your answers in a chart like the one below:
