Adjectives & Articles
 An adjective (adj.) is a word that describes a noun (person, place, or thing).
Example: Debi saw a white horse running in the field. (white describes horse)

Common adjectives = describe a nonspecific noun
Examples: damaged shed, shiny star
Proper adjectives = describe a specific noun, so it is capitalized
Examples: American flag, English book
Comparative & Superlative Adjectives
 A comparative adjective compares two things (nouns). Uses –er or more
 A superlative adjective compares three or more things (nouns). Uses –est or most
 There are irregulars like: good, well, better, best, bad, worse, worst
* NEVER use both –er and more or –est and most. Use one or the other.
Adverbs
 An adverb (adv.) tells how, where, or when and action (verb) happens. It can be written before or
after the verb. Many adverbs end with –ly or -ily
How- The horse quickly ran over the owner. (quickly describes how the horse ran)

Where- You will need to go down one flight of stairs. (down describes where to go)
