join in with the second retelling. What do they notice? Make a list
about the story of likes, dislikes, puzzles and patterns – share and
discuss. Show chn the first sentence on cards and get them to
reorder to make the first sentence. Repeat with another sentence.

Teach: Retell the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar together
again, use the story map to put in the physical punctuation. Look at
the word ‘wriggled’ and investigate other words that you might ‘do’
on a farm. Show the children what happens to a verb when it is in
the past tense adding the suffix ‘ed’.
