WELCOME from the headteacher Thank you for considering the post of Deputy Headteacher at St Francis Xavier School. This vacancy has arisen due to the successful promotion of our current Deputy to a Headship post. We are an outstanding school where staff and students work together to enable our gifts and talents to flourish. The joint Roman Catholic and Church of England nature of our school provides a distinctive Christian ethos shared by only a few other secondary schools in the country. Our identity as a Christian school and the inspiration we receive from Christ’s message to “love God” and “love our neighbour” shape our ethos and spirit. We aim to demonstrate our love of God by developing the gifts and talents he has given to each one of us and we demonstrate our love of our neighbour by the way we care for those in our school, home and wider communities. Expectations for standards of academic achievement and behaviour are high. Within clear fair boundaries children feel happy and secure and success can be achieved. Along with a record for academic excellence, St Francis Xavier School provides a wide range of sporting, musical, social and extra-curricular activities. We have a deserved reputation for high standards in our cultural activities and sporting achievements. As a small school the opportunities for each child to participate in these and other events are abundant. Almost all children will represent the school in some way, whether this is in sport, dance, drama, music or through reading at assemblies. The opportunity to participate, enjoy and experience success and disappointments helps children to develop into well-rounded, confident, caring and mature young adults. St Francis Xavier is a successful and popular school. Pupil numbers, in recent years, have grown steadily. In recognition of this success, and to accommodate the increased pupil population, the Department of Education and Skills approved a complete rebuild of our school. Phase one of the re-build was opened in September 2005. The second and final phase was completed for September 2006, providing the children of St Francis Xavier School with excellent accommodation and facilities within which teaching and learning excel. We believe that our distinctive ethos as a school can be seen and felt in the way we live our lives each day and in the way each person within our community is valued and respected. Every person coming into our school, whether as a visitor, member of staff, parent or pupil is welcomed into a warm and happy atmosphere where good relationships develop.
