110 students x 5 Days = 550 days of
teaching
10 potential teachers = 55 days of teaching
11 to 12 weeks per teacher minimum




No GFT dermatologist
All dermatologists in private practice
responsible for significant overhead expenses
huge clinical demand ( 3 to 9 month wait
lists)
No full time University secretarial,
administrative staff
If all Dermatologists agreed to participate
◦ 10 hours of small group tutorials
◦ 60 days of in office teaching 480 hours?
◦ Roughly 500 hours of teaching per dermatologist

Dermatologists are not willing to commit this
time
◦ Most have students or residents for 1/3 of their
office time now
◦ Many expressed frustration with teaching
dermatology to undergrads
 Poor attendance
 Interest only in exam relevance
 Not necessary to pass the course
◦ Little if any compensation


Dermatologists would agree to continuing the
current didactic lecture course or would
consider replacing it with five small group
tutorials.The online course would need to be
upgraded and loaded to Opal if we were to
replace the didactic lectures
The clinical experience would be a limited
number of one week electives interested
students could apply for.



