Transcript
Cincinnatus!
Cincinnatus was a military
general who became a farmer
when he retired from the army.
One day, a foreign army
surrounded Rome.
The Romans searched for
Cincinnatus in order to
request his leadership and
found him at his plow.
Cincinnatus agreed and
became temporary dictator
of Rome.
Roman definition of dictator:
During times of
emergencies,
all power was given to one
man instead of the two
consuls.
Term of office:
6 months
Cincinnatus took power and
defeated the army in 16
days.
Rather than continue leading
Rome as a military dictator,
Cincinnatus returned back
to his plow and lived a quiet life.
Cincinnatus became an example
of moral virtue, for he did not desire
ultimate power, even though he
could have used the army to take
over Rome.
