Body Systems
The next benchmark that we need to
explore states…
SCI.III.2.MS.4- Explain how
selected systems and processes work
together in animals.
o
What You Already Know…
You already know that…
 Cells make up tissues
 Tissues make up organs
 Organs make up organ systems
 Organ systems make up organisms.
You’ve seen cells and tissues under the
microscope. You know about some
organs of the body, but let’s look in depth
at a few of the systems that carry out
body functions.
What You Already Know…

You also know that all things are
interrelated. Especially things
within your body. Everything in
there works together to allow your
body to function. When one system
is affected, the others are affected
also in one way or another.
Body Systems

The human body is built up of
nearly a dozen major
interrelated systems, each
designed for a special function.
Body Systems
The body systems that we will look at
include…
 Circulatory system
 Respiratory system
 Endocrine system
 Reproductive system
 Skeletal system
 Muscular system
 Nervous system
 Excretory system
Skeletal System


Bones provide the system for
translating muscular
contractions into bodily
movements.
Bones make up your skeletal
system.
Body Systems



The fuel and oxygen that keep
muscles working travel through
thousands of miles of tubing in the
circulatory system.
which in turn depends upon the
respiratory system to supply the
blood with oxygen,
and the digestive system, where
food is broken down into
nutrients that can be used as
fuel.
Body Systems




The urinary system gets rid of
processed body wastes.
The endocrine system and the
nervous system control bodily
activities.
The senses, extensions of the
nervous system, allow the body to be
aware of the surroundings.
All these interlocking systems are
surrounded by skin.
Your Challenge
•
You will be divided into small
groups.
•
Each group will research a body
system, and devise a lesson to
teach that body system to the rest
of the class.
•
Get creative!!
