You will create an informative brochure on various body systems. This can be in the
form of a computer generated pamphlet, a foldable (see text book p 572-574) or
PowerPoint (need both digital and printed slides). This will be used for a study guide for
the next assessment. Utilize your textbook, review book and websites (see class website
for examples) to gather the following information:
Specific System Questions:
Digestive:
o Describe and differentiate mechanical and chemical digestion
o What are the main organs and their functions?
o Why must food be broken down to? Explain how this is connected to diffusion
into body cells.
o Describe how absorption of nutrients occurs in the small intestine. Be sure to
include the role of villi in your answer and how diffusion is involved.
Respiratory:
o What are the main organs and their functions?
o Write the steps Oxygen molecules take from the atmosphere to a cell.(could be a
flow chart)
o Explain how the respiratory and circulatory systems work in a coordinated
fashion.
Circulatory:
o What are the main organs and their functions?
o Describe the difference between pulmonary and systemic circulation. What other
system is involved in pulmonary circulation?
o Describe how diffusion is involved in the transport of materials across capillary
walls.
o What is the lymphatic system and how does it function to maintain
homeostasis? Describe the role and locations of lymph nodes.

o Describe how the lungs, kidneys, large intestine, and skin function as excretory
organs. Be specific in your descriptions.
o What is a nephron and describe its function? Describe the difference between
reabsorption and filtration in the kidneys.

o Explain how the nervous system works with the muscular system to cause

o What does it mean when hormones are called chemical messengers?

released into the bloodstream?
