Ordinary people had very little. Farmers used wooden sticks
for gardening and knives for hunting and harvesting. People
made their own clothes. They dyed cloth to make the clothes,
or sell at the local market. they slept on rush mats and
cooked on a clay disc on three stones over a fire and stored
food in clay pots. There food was also simple Maize, a type of corn,
was the Aztec's main food source. The Aztecs also ate tomatoes,
avocados, atole (a type of porridge), tortillas made from maize, and
tamales, a kind of envelope made from steamed maize stuffed with
vegetables or meat. Aztecs also ate chocolate. In their culture chocolate
was reserved for warriors and nobility. A drink of cacao mixed with ground
maize was believed to provide stamina and was used in sacred rituals.
Chocolate was a drink for the elite.
The Spanish conquest of the Aztecs in 1521, led by Hernando
Cortes, was a landmark victory for the European settlers. Following
the Spanish arrival in Mexico, a huge battle erupted between the
army of Cortes and the Aztec people under the rule of Montezuma.
The events that occurred were crucial to the development of the
American lands and have been the subject of much historical debate
in present years. The poor Aztecs were left poor and half dead my
the time they were defeated. Their great civilization broken
They would have seen all the interesting thing
brought by the new people and they would be
jealous and want the newer technology. And would
like to merge the two great civilizations, Or maybe
that they could live in peace with the Spanish
people.
The conquistadors were soldiers of fortune looking to find gold and/or
other plunder to enrich themselves since they had no prospects of
prosperity at home in Spain. They were aided and encouraged by
fanatical priests who ostensibly joined the expedition in order to
convert the Aztecs.
The Aztecs were destroyed primarily because the Spanish had
superior weapons, namely firearms, but there were also cultural
factors, including a belief by the Aztecs that the leader of the
Spaniards was their god, Quetzalcoatl, come to earth in human form.
Many got destroyed by a disease that the Spanish
brought to Tenochtitlan (centre of the Aztec civilization)
The Spanish, led by Hernando Cortez, came to the Aztec
civilization. The Aztecs thought they were gods. The
Aztecs gave them food covered in human blood and the
Spaniards went to war with the Aztecs and more than
33% of the Aztecs were killed by small pox. But some
survived the killings and the small pox and were
Christianized and used as slaves.
After the conquest many of the Aztecs were left homeless and
many family members and friends had died, But after all that
they were Christianized and became Mexican “Indians”. the
Aztec nation died in 1521. The Aztec Empire and the Nahua
nations, as political entities, were destroyed. First, the
Spaniards didn't engage in genocide against all Nahua
speaking people. And to truly destroy a culture, one must
destroy all of the people who belong to it. The Spaniards had
an economic interest in keeping enough native alive since they
could use them as slaves or serfs to the Spaniards, and this
way make the new colony profitable for themselves and for
mother Spain.
Their cities and homes were mainly destroyed or used by the
Spaniards.
Because the Spaniards wanted all the gold to themselves and
the new land and did not bother sharing.
