OSMOSIS
By: Dillan & Kelsey
Osmosis Definition
The process by which water molecules defuse
across a cell membrane from a area of higher
concentration to an area of lower concentration.

ex. The absorption of water by plant
roots.
Direction of Osmosis

The net direction of osmosis depends on
the relative concentration of solutes on
the two sides of the membrane .
hypotonic
hypertonic
isotonic
Contractile Vacuoles
Organelles that remove water.
 contractile vacuoles collect the excess
water and then contract, pumping the
water out of the cell so the cell doesn’t
drown.

What cells do it?
Blood cells
 Red blood cells
White blood cell
•
the movement of water in and out of
the cell membrane. To keep the cells
healthy.
