5.2A- Conditional Statements
Date: _____________ Period: ______
Objective: To write conditional statements and identify the parts of them
Warm-up:
Determine if the conjecture is true or false. Provide a counterexample if necessary.
A.
If Susan is in school, then she is in math class.
B.
If you were born in New York, then you live in New York.
C.
If the car will not start, then it is out of gas.
D.
If the basketball team has scored 100 points, then they must be winning.
Vocabulary:
Conditional Statement: A fancy word for an “if-then” statement.
Ex. If  then ♥
Hypothesis: The “if” part of an if-then statement.
Ex. 
Conclusion: The “then” part of an if-then statement.
Ex. ♥
Example #1:
For each if-then statement, circle the hypothesis and underline the conclusion.
A.) If I wake up to my alarm, then I arrived at school on time.
B.) If I drive over the speed limit, then I will get a speeding ticket.
C.) If it's a pentagon, then it is a five sided polygon.
D.) If two angles are straight angles, then they are congruent.
E.) If the weather is warm, then we should go swimming.
F.) There will be 6 more weeks of winter, if the groundhog sees its shadow.
G.) If you are Patrick Kane, then you play for the Blackhawks.
H.) ABC is a right angle, if the angle measures 90˚.
Example #2:
Write a conditional statement and determine the validity of it. Provide a counter-example if
necessary.
A.) Living in Lindenhurst, Illinois.
B.) Sunny days make me happy.
C.) When the Blackhawks win the Stanley cup, Chicago will celebrate.
D.) Two angles that are both right are congruent.
E.) You will need sunglasses if it's sunny outside.
F.) Today is Monday if yesterday was Sunday.

5.2B- Conditional Statements
Name: __________________________
Date: _____________ Period: ______
Objective: To write the converse of conditional statements and determine if a statement is
bi-conditional
Warm-up:
Choose the numbers that are counterexamples for the following statement.
“If two odd numbers are added, then the sum is also an odd number.”
A) 3, 8
B) 4, 6
C) 1, 7
D) 2, -1
Vocabulary:
Converse: A reversed if-then statement.
Ex. If ♥ then 
Bi-Conditional Statement: A statement that’s validity is true and its converse is also true.
Example #1:
Write the converse of the conditional statement and determine its validity (Circle True or False)
A.) If it snows outside, then the roads are slippery.
True False
B.) If the Bears score a touchdown, then they will beat the Packers.
True False
C.) If I eat a lot of sugar, then I will be on a sugar high.
True False
D.) If two angles are congruent, then they have the same measure.
True False
E.) If the measure of angle A is 120 degrees, then angle A is obtuse.
True False
F.) If two angles are vertical angles, then they are congruent
True False
Example #2:
Write the converse and determine if the statements are bi-conditional
A.) If Lakes beats Antioch in basketball, then Lakes won the game.
True False

B.) If a polygon has six sides, then it is a hexagon.

C.) If Mrs. Ecker is teaching class, then she is in room C320
