DON’T FORGET THE 3 C’s
• Check: Check the scene to make sure it is
safe to help the victim
• Call: Once you check to see if the victim is
safe call 911
• Care: Care for the victim if ok by the
person. If the victim can’t speak then
provide care for the individual.
Sprain
• A condition in which the ligaments that
hold the joints in position are stretched or
torn
• So what should you do when you sprain
something?
Fracture
• A break in the bone
• Types:

P.R.I.C.E.
The P.R.I.C.E. Method
Protect the inured part by keeping it still.
Rest the affected joint for 24 to 48 hours.
Ice the injured part to reduce swelling and pain.
Compress the injured area by wrapping it.
Elevate the injured part above the level of the heart.
WHAT IS A STROKE
• A stroke occurs when a blood vessel in the
brain is blocked or bursts
• Brain damage can begin within minutes,
so it is important to know the symptoms
of stroke and act fast. Quick treatment
can help limit damage to the brain and
increase the chance of recovery
WARNING SIGNS OF A STROKE
• Sudden numbness, tingling, weakness,
loss of feeling or movement
• Sudden trouble speaking
• Trouble with balance or walking
What is a Heart Attack
• A condition in which blood flow to a part
of the heart is greatly reduced or blocked
Warning Signs of A Heart Attack
• Chest discomfort or pain
• Chest becomes heavy and feels like
something is crashing down on your chest
• Numbness or weakness of the face, arm,
or leg, especially on the left side of body
CPR and Survival
• Chain of survival- sequence of actions that
maximize the victim’s chances of survival
• CPR- cardiopulmonary resuscitation
• Defibrillation- defibrillator is a device that
delivers an electric shock to the heart to
restore its normal rhythm
