Drawing Conclusions
• A conclusion is a decision you reach after
thinking about facts and details you read.
• You can also use what you already know
to help draw a conclusion.
• Then ask yourself, “Does my conclusion
make sense?”
• Let’s complete Practice Book page 128.
Author’s Viewpoint
• The author's viewpoint is the way an author
looks at and feels about the topic or ideas he
or she is writing about.
• Think about how the author seems to feel about
the subject. Look for words and details in the
text that tell you if the author feels positively or
negatively or otherwise about the subject.
• Ask yourself what beliefs are behind the author's
statements. Look for details in the text that
support your ideas about the author's viewpoint.

Word Structure – Compound Words
• You can use word structure to

Review
• The subject and the verb in a sentence
must work together. When the subject and
verb work together, they agree.
• To make most present tense verbs agree
with singular subjects or he, she, or it,
add -s.
• If the subject is a plural noun or I, you, we,
or they, the present tense
verb does not end in -s.
