27 April 2016 Accolade from ACerS A/Prof Palani (left) receiving his certification of recognition from ACerS’ President Dr. Mrityunjay Singh. ASSOCIATE Professor Palani Balaya has been recognized by the American Ceramic Society (ACerS) as an “ACerS Global Ambassador” for his outstanding efforts in developing global collaboration and outreach for the Society’s initiatives, as well as for his leadership in the organisation of the Asia Pacific Ceramic Cooperation Summit (APCC Summit) held at the University in February this year. He has been involved in the organization of numerous symposia on “Energy Conversion and Storage” during ACerS’ conferences held in the United States and Canada since 2013. A few examples include the 40th International Conference and Exposition on Advanced Ceramic and Composites: Organizer, Symposium on “Advanced Materials and Technologies for Direct Thermal Energy Conversion and Rechargeable Energy Storage” [24-29 January 2016, USA], and 11th International Symposium on Ceramic Materials and Components for Energy and Environmental Applications (CMCEE): Symposium on “Advanced Batteries and Supercapacitors for Energy Storage Applications” [14-19 June 2015, Canada]. A/Prof Palani joined the Faculty of Engineering in January 2007, and is currently with the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He also serves as an Associate Faculty in the Engineering Science Programme. A/Prof Palani’s current research area includes energy storage using lithium-ion battery and sodium-ion battery.
