CellBiologyandPhysiologyEmphasis: Studentsinthisemphasisstudytheformandfunctionoflivingorganisms–fromsingle‐ celledbacteriatothehumanbody.Aftercompletingthecorebiologycourses(Genetics, CellBiology,andBiotechnologyLabMethods),studentsinthisemphasischoosean additionalcoursewithafocusatthecellularorsubcellularlevel(MolecularBiologyor Microbiology).Theyalsochooseadditionalelectivesintheirareaofinterest,withoptions ofBehavioralNeuroscience,DevelopmentalBiology,andHumanAnatomyandPhysiology amongothers(seechecklist–linkbelow).Popularminorswiththisemphasisare ChemistryandPhysicalSciences,althoughstudentshaveminorsinstudiesasdiverseas SpanishorDance. AllBiologymajorsarerequiredtogainexperienceoutsideoftheclassroom.Optionsfor thisrequirementincludeundergraduateresearchwithafacultymentor,internships,or travelstudies.Forstudentsinthisemphasisinterestedincontinuingtheireducationin graduateschoolprograms,theopportunitytoundertakeundergraduateresearchcanbe invaluable.Asresearchscientists‐in‐training,studentswillworkone‐on‐onewithafaculty membertodevelopanexperiment,carryitout,andpresenttheirworkeitheroncampusor atastateornationalmeeting.Forthosestudentsinterestedinacareerinindustry,the departmenthasahistoryofworkingwithanumberoflocalbusinessestohelpyougain experience.
