ABSTRACT The Study of Antiretroviral Utilization in Hospitalized Patients with HIV/AIDS at Department of Infection Disease Intermediet Cure Dr. Soetomo General Hospital Surabaya The purpose of this study was to analyze the antiretroviral (ARV/ART) utilization in HIV/AIDS patients who were hospitalized during January 1st , 2004 until December 31 st, 2005. This study used descriptively analysis by using retrospective data from patient’s medical record. The results showed that ARV which most used were lamivudine (32,54%), zidovudine (31,95%), nevirapine (30,18%), efavirens (2,96%), stavudine (1,78%), didanosine (0,59%) and the combination which mostly used was zidovudin + lamivudin + nevirapin (80,89%). From this study, 96,61% patient conformed to WHO guidelines (ARV was recommended to patient Stage III dan IV WHO irrespectively of total lymphocyte count). There were 21,67% patient which changing or stopping ARV because adverse drug reaction. Zidovudine caused haematological toxicity (decreased Hb and WBC). Nevirapine caused drug eruption or Steven Johsons Syndrom and hepatotoxicity (elevated SGOT and SGPT ). The drug interaction that might be happened between ARV and the other drug which used on patient were zidovudine with fluconazole cotrimoxazole, or rifampicin and nevirapine with rifampicin or ketoconazole.
