Sample Protocol

Drugs in Pump: 100 ml of 0.5% bupivacaine
Catheter Placement: 3 inches superior and lateral to incision
tunnel the catheter through the skin, subcutaneous fat and the
fascia. The ON-Q Soaker Catheter is placed along the bone
harvest site. The periosteum is reapproximated and the wound is
closed in layers.
Catheter Securement Technique: Catheter is secured with Steri-Strips™.
The flow restrictor is placed on the skin and secured with a clear
occlusive dressing.
Results with ON-Q: Percocet® or the physician’s pain medication of
choice should be available for breakthrough post operative pain.

All local anesthetics are without epinephrine and
manufacturer recommendations should be regarded
as guidelines for use in adults.
Other Notes: Subjective data per patient report: within 24 hours after AICBG pain score is 0/10. 24 hours after removal of catheter
pain levels have increased to 4-5/10 with overall opioid requirement decreased.
CAUTIONS
• Medications used with this system should be administered in accordance with instructions provided by the drug manufacturer (see guidelines above).
Surgeon is responsible for prescribing drug based on each patient’s clinical status (e.g., age, body weight, disease state of patient).
• Vascoconstrictors such as Epinephrine or Adrenaline are not necessary and may not be recommended for continuous infusions.
