ABOUT DUE EAST
DUE EAST (Erin Lesser, flutes; Greg Beyer, percussion) actively promotes new music and seeks to
expand the flute and percussion duo genre through frequent commissions and premieres. The duo
has performed in China, Brazil, Europe, Canada and the USA at venues such as the Beijing Modern
Music Festival, the Warsaw Crossdrumming Festival, the Banff Centre for the Arts and the SEAMUS
conference. DUE EAST has given multiple performances at the Percussive Arts Society International
Convention and won first prize in the 2008 National Flute Association Chamber Music
Competition. Their first recording, Simultaneous Worlds, is available on Albany Records. Their second
recording, Drawn Only Once, is a multi-media CD/DVD now available on New Amsterdam Records.
Noted critic Steve Smith gave it a rare 5.0-star rating in Time Out New York, calling it "spellbindingly
beautiful."
DUE EAST has performed Alex Mincek’s Double Concerto with The Knights (Bargemusic, NYC) as
well as with the Northern Illinois University New Music Ensemble. The duo has on multiple occasions

Hailed a “fine percussionist” in the New York Times, Greg Beyer won second-prize at the 2002 Geneva
International Music Competition. Of primary importance to him is his project, ARCOMUSICAL – an
endeavor that involves ethnomusicological research on the berimbau and other related musical bows,
and the composition and commission of new works for this ancient instrument. Beyer has given solo
performances and masterclasses throughout the United States, Europe, South America and in China. He is a member of Due East, Ensemble Dal Niente, and is an Associate Professor of Percussion at
Northern Illinois University. Beyer endorses Pearl/Adams percussion instruments, Bosphorus
cymbals, Innovative Percussion sticks and mallets, and Evans Drumheads.
Erin Lesser has performed as soloist and chamber musician throughout world and her performances
have been lauded as “superb” (New York Times) and “brilliant” (New York Concert Reivew). She is a
member of Alarm Will Sound, Argento Chamber Ensemble, Due East, Scarborough Trio, and the Wet
Ink Ensemble. Festival appearances include: Shanghai Electroacoustic Music Festival, Kilkenny Music
Festival, Warsaw Crossdrumming Festival, Holland Festival, Ojai Music Festival, Istanbul International
Spectral Music Festival, and Aldeburgh Festival. Lesser was a fellow of The Academy, a program run
by Carnegie Hall, the Juilliard School and the Weill Music Institute. She is an Assistant Professor of
Flute at the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music. Lesser is a Pearl Flute Performing Artist.

options. Whether it is an entire program of new commissions, or music that showcases
flute and drum traditions from around the world, a Due East performance always
provides a virtuosic performance and an enthusiasm that is sure to connect with

“The Global Economy”

“Songs of Earth and Sky”
From Argentinian composer Alejandro Viñao’s work based on “forms of the wind” to Robert
Beaser’s beautiful settings of American folksongs to Alexis Bacon’s use of a texas cattle
auctioneer’s speech patterns, this program draws upon truly unique folk idioms and
traditions.
