OBJECTIVE
This year 2006 is an important year for Thai people. Because this year we will
celebrate the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumiphol
Adulyadej (Rama IX)’s Accession to the Throne. Thailand was also among the
first to acknowledge Norway’s independence in 1905. And next year it will be a
hundred years since the first visit, of King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), 1907 and
the start of the good and long relations between Norway and Thailand and as
well as the two Royal Families. The second visit was by King Bhumiphol and
Queen Sirikit in 1960.
Every single Thai person would gladly celebrate this occasion. There will be an
official celebration in every Royal Thai Embassy all over the world.
His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej is very well
respected by the Thai people for his effort for
development works among poor in Thailand as well as
for his engagement for environmentally questions. He is
also a very talented musician, composer, arranger, and
performer. He also excels in other art forms as is evident
in his photography, painting and sculpture.
Therefore, we would like to celebrate His Majesty King
Bhumiphol by performing his beautiful music and share
our happiness with the Norwegian people and Thai inhabitants in Norway.
We hope this presentation will strengthen the bonds between Norway and
Thailand.
IDEA BEHIND
Our Ambassador, H.E.Chitriya Pinthong, would like to present more of the Thai
Culture events to the Norwegian society.
In the occasion of H.M. the King Bhumiphol’s 60th Anniversary of the
Accession to the Throne, it could be a good opportunity to organise a concert
with His Majesty’s compositions.
It will be very interesting to have well-known jazz musicians or bands to
perform His Majesty’s music. We have planned to have a mix between wellknown Norwegian and Thai Jazz musicians and singers to create a brotherhood
through the music; to represent a good relationship between Norway and
Thailand. We hope this concert will bring further the collaboration of musicians
between the two countries. And we wish to foster further more cultural
exchange in the future in both this field and another kind of arts.
WHO ARE THE ARTISTS?
Ophelia Ragtime Jazz Orchestra is going to be our main artists. The style of the
jazz they perform is the main reason why we have chosen them. King
Bhumiphol has very much interest in jazz, and Dixieland jazz has become his
favourite.
Nora Brockstedt is another Norwegian artist we have invited. She has not yet
confirmed her participation, but she is very much interested in His Majesty’s
music. Nora is a living history for Norwegian music, and she has an amazing
career as a singer, and still performs at the age of 83. We found that she will be
a right person to represent Norway, since she is into the jazz genre for the last
few years. And we hope that she would like to share her memories about the
Royal visit of King Bhumibol and Queen Sirikit to Norway in 1960.
There will be four Thai artists performing with Ophelia. Three of them are
Mrs.Dusdi Banomyong Buntasnakul, a diva and a famous singing teacher in
Thailand, Mrs.Teeranai Na Nongkai, a well-known promising young soprano.
And the next artist is Pathorn Srikaranonda, a very talented saxophonist and
composer in the new generation of Thai jazz/classical musicians. These are the 3
artists who Royal Thai Embassy in Oslo has invited from Thailand. The last is
Songsit Lertsethtakarn, a coming young tenor who has his education from
Norwegian and Danish music institutes and is living in Norway.
