Hearing for both young and old.
Children and young people have different
requirements of hearing systems than those
of older generations. Products for children
need to be significantly more resistant to
wear and tear, so that they can carry on
enjoying their play and fun without any
restrictions.
A standard ear does not exist.
The human ear is just as unique as a fingerprint is, so much so that it has even been
used for personal identification purposes.
As one example, one serial burglar in Hamburg was convicted in 2012 solely on the
basis of the ear impressions he left behind
every time he put his ear to the door.

example, affects every fourth German person

Demanding hearing systems have always represented miniature works of art. More technology
and a better understanding of the problems and
relationships is one thing, but achieving a perfect
fit and an unobtrusive placement within the ear is
another. The harmonious combination of the two

with BTE systems, although many customers were
previously supplied with ITE systems and would

From the individualized impression to a unique hearing system.
1. The hearing system professional takes the first steps. He first
takes an impression of the ear and the auditory canal. This demands precise and skilled craftsmanship. The more accurate the
impression, the more optimal is the final result.
2. By express to HANSATON: The impression is dispatched
immediately by the hearing system professional to the experts at
HANSATON, who check again by dual control whether the impression is fit for purpose.
5. The ventings are also defined on the computer. The differently
sized ventilation ducts later provide for optimum comfort in the ear
- free of occlusions.
6. In the stereolithography procedure the computer generated
model is then printed to form a hollow ITE shell. The materials
used are hypoallergenic, biocompatible and can, if necessary, be
reworked by the hearing system professional locally.
7. Using a microscope, the technicians of HANSATON then insert
the technical components by hand into the fabricated hollow ITE
shell.
8. The new ITE hearing system now waits to be worn. Developed,
assembled and perfectly matched in our manufacturing facility.
First, however, it has to pass quality assurance testing. In this process optical, acoustic and metrological parameters are checked to
see if they conform to DIN and ISO standards.

individual amplification requirements through use

and 2 compression ratios. As a result, quiet signals
are made audible, moderate sounds are optimally adjusted, and loud sounds are rendered at
comfortable levels, for every type of hearing loss.
In addition, the expanded multi-channel MPO
system ensures a better adjustment to frequency-dependent uncomfortable levels.
In order to achieve spontaneous acceptance
and comfort, XpressFit sets the relevant adaptive parameters at the required levels. XPress Fit
checks, for example, the results of the open loop
gain, the acoustic parameters set, as well as the
required Insertion Gain (IG) during open fittings,
and sets the feedback system to the required
values. XPressFit's target amplifications allow for
an optimal sound quality while the necessary
amplification can be offered at the same time.
The new possibilities with Xpress Profile enable
an individual, optimal setting of the parameters to
customer requirements. Real HiFi offers the option
of implementing adjustments of up to 10 kHz for
clear speech and brilliant sound. High-frequency
target amplifications are extrapolated from the
standard audiogram (up to 8 kHz).
Tests of XpressFit's adjustment strategy have

Many hearing-impaired persons are not comfortable speaking on the phone or going places
with a high level of background noise. Disruptive
background noise interferes with their auditory
perception, due to which they are no longer able
to attribute speech. It is time to put an end to this!
Thanks to the new XearA technology by
HANSATON. It separates useful noise from background noise, thanks to which relevant speech can
be well understood, even in a noisy environment.

With XearA technology, jogging and cycling are
easy and uncomplicated, as is a beautiful fall hike
in wind and inclement weather - at the North Sea,
for example. With Active Wind Block, disruptive
wind sounds are reduced by up to 30 dB so that
the ear can concentrate on speech. For hear-
ing-impaired persons, abruptly-occurring sounds
or noises are irritating. Breaking plates, forks falling
to the ground, or the clinking of glasses during

channels during the fitting.

To increase acceptance of the hearing system
during fitting, less amplification than necessary is
often defined in order to achieve a comfortable
sound. For example, it is possible that a First Fit
is conducted using NAL-NL2 70 % (70 % of the
original NAL-NL2 target amplification). The goal
is a fitting with NAL-NL2 100 %. In addition, the
Acclimatization Manager can acclimatize from
NAL-NL2 70 % (initial point) to NAL-NL2 100 %
(target point).
The current setting is the optimal setting in terms
of speech recognition, and is thus the goal of
acclimatization. The amplification can then be individually reduced in order to generate a pleasantly-sounding initial point of acclimatization.

AQ Charge.
The core component of the charging technology is the processor within the hearing system.
It switches off the hearing system in the charging
station, controls the charging current for charging
the battery and it also controls an infrared diode
necessary for communicating between the hearing
system and the charging station. The transmitted
information is recorded by an infrared receiver in
the charging station and is made visible by the
microprocessor using the LEDs on the charging
station.

The tinnitus phenomenon.
Few of us don’t know it: ringing in the ears which,
instead of penetrating from the outside to the
inside, appear to originate from the inside. That
is what tinnitus is, ringing in the ear. In most cases
it disappears as quickly as it comes. But this isn’t
always the case.
Tinnitus is one of the most complex diseases
encountered in medical practice since it has many
physical causes. Skull and brain injuries, impact
traumas, functional disorders of the cervical spine
or of the temporomandibular joint, metabolic
disease, arteriosclerotic changes in elderly patients and in rare cases even tumors of the auditory
nerve or the middle ear are just a few to mention. When it occurs it requires a multidisciplinary
approach to its examination. If examination reveals
certain findings, appropriate therapies need to be
introduced.

Conventional treatment methods for acute tinnitus aim to heal a suspected inner ear disorder by
increasing the supply of oxygen to the organ. If
a recovery or at least some relief does not occur
after this therapy, a chronic tinnitus will develop in
many cases, and the life-disrupting ear noises are
sadly irreversible. Often tinnitus is also accompanied by other hearing disorders. These can include
both hearing loss and an increased susceptibility to noise (hyperacusis). A large proportion of
sufferers become accustomed over time to the
noise and adapt in their own ways. In other cases,
however, the tinnitus leads to serious impairments
in an individual’s quality of life. They may suffer
sleep disorders, acute stress and anxiety reactions,
depression and often a reduction in their ability
to work. Overall it can be said that tinnitus and its
consequences represent a highly complex phenomenon that can only be tackled in an interdisciplinary way.
Information
The term tinnitus is derived from the perfect stem of the Latin verb »tinnire«. Precisely translated it means the »ringing«
or the »bells«. Today, there are about 400 known causes that can trigger tinnitus. Examination by medical specialists of
several orientations is therefore the first step on the road to treatment and management. If examination reveals certain findings,
appropriate therapies have to be initiated. The coordinator of the interdisciplinary treatment strategy should be the ENT specialist.

habituation process. Tinnitus counselling is a major
pillar of therapy carried out by trained specialists.
However, components of an individualized tinnitus management may also include biofeedback,
meditation, activities to stabilize the equilibrium
of the mind, instructions on stress management
and relaxation music or exercises. Individualized
HANSATON hearing solutions certainly assist in
bringing about desensitization: the high bandwidth WAVE noise generator systems, or if necessary the SOUL system which also incorporates a
hearing system.
Tinnitus masking is brought about using a narrow
bandwidth noise produced by electrical noise generators. In this case the primary goal is to conceal
the tinnitus. This means that the tinnitus is no longer
audible while the maskers are used. Unfortunately,
no habituation effect occurs with this method. Such
a desired habituation effect can only occur if the
tinnitus is also perceptible. In our systems the natural and stress-free habituation effect has now been
exploited for years using a wide bandwidth natural
therapeutic signal close to the threshold of hearing
(acoustic enrichment), a technique which is based
on the Jastreboff neurophysiological model.

Studies of brain activity have shown that tinnitus
is not primarily a mental disorder. Accordingly, modern therapies now focus on influencing tinnitus
effects on the central nervous system. This is also
how tinnitus is managed by HANSATON. The

As an instrument for treating tinnitus, the noiser
must be able to generate noise signals near the
threshold of hearing which are pleasant for the patient and which should ideally be perceived as high
bandwidth noise. For this reason alone an individualized shaping of the noise signal is necessary. In
the presence of a frequency-dependent hearing
loss, however, the high bandwidth signal generated by the noiser can never be perceived as high

In pure noise mode all the noiser functions
are available. As a starting point for fine
tuning, one of four different predefined
noise signals can be selected depending

noise, speech noise or high tone noises.
The noise profile can be set individually
either in 4 (SOUL Economy) or 16 channels
(SOUL Business).
Selection: Microphone.
The systems allow the programming
of pure listening programs, which are
designed exclusively for the processing of
certain types of external signal. This allows
programs to be generated specifically e.g.
for communication or music. The use of a
miniMedia remote control unit or eControl
is supported on some systems. Allowing
a wireless connection to various external signal sources via Bluetooth. For the
purposes of tinnitus management one can
also transfer relaxation music to the hearing
system using the remote control.
Selection: Microphone + noise.
In mixed mode the noise generator is also
combined with the signal processing of the
hearing system. These programs remain
focused on the hearing system. The volume
of the noise can be varied generally over
the bandwidth, and the sound can also be
shaped individually.
The tone mix.
By selecting the active tone mix the hearing
system professional can quickly and effectively modify the overall sound impression.

In BTE systems sound reception does not occur
within the ear, but above the ear. As such
the natural influence that the outer ear has on the
sound (pinna effect) is completely sidelined and the
sound signal that is presented is more unnatural.
Furthermore, the ability to localize sound sources is
also affected because the natural directivity afforded by the pinna is also impaired.
With the Natural Sound a person affected by
hearing loss can finally tell exactly where a
sound is coming from, regardless of where he
or she may be.
