saliva for progesterone level in
your body.
Overview of Progesterone: Progesterone is a hormone. Hormones are the “body regulators” and act as “control
messengers” for a vast, interrelated network of organ-system commands. As such they are constantly being
produced to meet changing situations in the body and then removed (through the liver) when no longer needed.
How the Body Produces Progesterone: All the body’s hormones are made from Pregnenalone which forms two
(2) basic hormonal building blocks (precursors), Progesterone and 17-OH-Pregnenalone. Cells throughout the body
use Progesterone to make other hormones as needed. Mitochondria, tiny energy packets found in every cell of the
body except red blood cells, make Pregnenalone from Cholesterol. Pregnenalone, as it passes through the blood
stream, is transformed into Progesterone primarily in the ovaries.
Progesterone’s Function in the Body:
Progesterone is the basic building block (precursor) of the other sex
hormones, estrogen and testosterone. Progesterone alone is a powerful hormone. In addition to its “building block”
function, it carries out the following functions: 1) maintains the lining of the uterus, 2) is necessary for the survival of
the embryo and fetus throughout the early stages of pregnancy, 3) protects against fibrocystic breasts, 4) is a natural
diuretic, 5) helps use fat for energy, 6) is a mild antidepressant, 7) helps thyroid hormone action, 8) normalizes blood
clotting, 9) restores sex drive, 10) helps normalize blood sugar levels, 11) normalizes zinc and copper levels, 12)
restores proper cell oxygen levels, 13) protects against endometrial cancer and, 14) protects against osteoporosis by
building bone density.
Synthetic Progestins: The strange structure of these manufactured, not-found-in-nature molecules do not function
like natural Progesterone. They take over places (receptor sites) where the body’s natural progesterone functions
and due to their synthetic composition, prevent the production of other hormones - causing undesirable side-effects.
They are also difficult for the body to absorb or remove.
Manufactured in the USA: Naturally occurring plant sterols - primarily diosgenin found in the roots of wild yams
(Dioscorea) and soybeans - are put through a multi-stage process, so that the resulting molecule perfectly matches
and functions in the same manner as the human body’s own remarkable hormone - progesterone.
Indications: Can be used for relief from insomnia, hot flashes, vaginal dryness, headaches or the emotional tension
most often associated with women 40-55 years of age. Reduces pain and tenderness connected with cystic breasts,
uterine fibroids and menstrual cramps. Valuable in the prevention of osteoporosis (bone degeneration) in women 55
years and older. With normal dosage at 25mgs/day (1/8tsp twice per day), Procrème Plus should last at least 2
months.
Directions: Natural Progesterone can be applied to any area of the body, however, it is best to apply it to thinner,
softer skin, such as the chest, breasts, lower abdomen, inner thighs, wrists/inner arms and neck. Periodically rotate
the area of the body where Progesterone Crème is applied. Normal dosage (25mg) using Procreme Plus is 1/8 tsp
twice each day. For severe symptoms use 1/4 tsp twice per day (50mg) as necessary for maximum benefit.
Protection of Procreme Plus: Do not expose to temperatures above 100 degrees F. (38 degrees C.). This product
has a normal life of more than one year.
Considerations: There have been no reports of significant side effects or health problems associated with natural
progesterone use. Every woman is different. One woman may require more progesterone to help alleviate
symptoms, while another woman can use less. Natural progesterone crème can potentially increase thyroid activity.
If you are taking thyroid supplements or medications, you should consult your health care provider and consider
lowering the amount of thyroid supplements or medications you use. In all cases, reduce or stop use if incidental
spotting occurs, which is usually temporary. Persistent spotting or bleeding should always be checked by a
physician. It is also unwise to use synthetic hormones (see Synthetic Progestins above) with natural progesterone
and gradual reduction, even withdrawal, is recommended.
