Danna Banana (Dan Cohen)
is a family performer with a
wide and varied background.
He received his bachelor’s degree
in dramatic writing from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts,
followed by a performance degree in opera from the
San Francisco Conservatory of Music. He went on to play
leading baritone roles all over the country. Once he and
wife Mara started a family, he began to write and record
songs for his own children to listen to while he was on
the road. Out of this grew Danna Banana. Moving back to
New York, he honed his songwriting skills at BMI’s
renowned Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop. A
song on his first album earned the prestigious John
Lennon Songwriting Contest’s Grand Prize, presented at
the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and his family show
Suddenly Summer! debuted off-Broadway in 2006.
Dubbed “Best Party Entertainer” by New York Magazine,
his cd’s and shows won raves from the New York Post, LA
Times, Jerusalem Post, Parenting Magaazine, Family Fun,
Nick Jr., and many others. In addition to performing at
theatres, schools and libraries all over the country,
Danna has done events and programs for stars such as
Rosie O’Donnell, Annie Leibovitz, Ernie Anastos and Chris
Rock. Dan Cohen is also a prolific songwriter and
producer who’s written tunes for Disney and
Nickelodeon. His song ‘Your Reward’ is on
Sara Hickman’s Motherlode cd. Dan is a
proud member of Manhattan
Producers Alliance and the
Dramatists Guild.
