The Triadic Ballet
The Triadic Ballet is Oskar Schlemmer’s most famous
stagework, the one most often associated with Bauhaus-Theatre.

Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 8pm in Forum Freies
Theater – Juta Dusseldorf
Instead of attempting an exact costume reconstruction,
ours (TdK) will be an adaptation of Schlemmer’s initial
pure designs, creating original additions to his ballet-costumes and stage-characters (also puppet-theatre). Instead
of automated and dehumanized figurines moving to
mechanized music, TRIAS presents an explosion which
expresses the joy of bodily and musical action in music and
dance theatre. Instead of celebrating the great art of Bauhaus, TRIAS emphasizes Schlemmer’s clown and carnival
approach to the stage.

TRIAS wants nothing less than a revival of its modern
classic heritage, and its spirit of the ” wild, free and
roaring 20’s“. With new techniques and a love for music
and dance, TRIAS creates, once more, a Bauhaus Stage
Festival!

In it’s beginnings in the 1920’s, little was known of this ballet . The reconstructions and new creations of the 60’s and
70’s are what is most associated with this ballet today. To
date, only two attempts of reconstructing this ballet have
been made . Both have become part of Bauhaus’ history.
For the first time in nearly 40 years, and more than 90
years since it’s premiere, TRIAS adapted by the THEATER
DER KLÄNGE in 2014/15, dares to create a new interpretation using the 21st Century’s possibilities of dance and
music.
The Triadic Ballet, though mirthfully coquetting, avoids
slipping into the grotesque, and touches upon the
conventional, without condescending to it. It’s aim ist to
illustrate the immaterialisation of the body, without
becoming esoteric, and to show how the beginnings of this
original German ballet could be.

From its inception, the ”Triadic Ballet” represented a
counter concept to the expressionistic modern dance
of that time in Germany. TRIAS understands itself as an
alternative concept to many now existing forms of modern
dance, using a contemporary glossary concerning dance
and music in other patterns.
