NATIONAL DANCE COMPANY OF SIBERIA GLIDES INTO HARRIS CENTER
The Beauty of Siberian Culture Expressed Through Dance and Song
(October 22, 2015 Folsom, CA) The Krasnoyarsk National Dance Company is a visual masterpiece
made possible not only by the technical abilities of the dancers, who perform each number with almost
scientific precision, but also by the exquisitely-embroidered costumes based on traditional regional
designs.
Created by Merited Worker in Art of the Tuva Republic Yelizavet Akselrod, and Merited Workers in Art
of Russia Boris Knoblok, Vladimir Mamontova, and Paulina Korotova, these garments, which are
museum pieces in and of themselves, evoke the Siberian landscape in their lines, colors and interplay
with each other. The choreography, under the artistic direction of Vladimir Moiseev, is a wonderful
blend of traditional folk dance and modern sophistication, with stunning highlights of acrobatics and
gymnastic techniques. The result is a visual experience that leaves the audience with impressions of
Siberian culture, values and aesthetics, lovingly crafted and delivered with an irresistible joy and
cultural pride.
National Dance Company of Siberia performs on Friday, November 20, 2015 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are
priced at $35-$49; Premium $59. Tickets are available online at www.harriscenter.net or from the Harris
Center Ticket Office at 916-608-6888 from noon to 6 pm Monday through Saturday, and two hours
before show time. Parking is included in the price of the ticket. Harris Center is located on the west side
of Folsom Lake College campus in Folsom, CA, facing East Bidwell Street.
Founded in 1960, Krasnoyarsk National Dance Company of Siberia is lovingly embraced by its
homeland and has won over audiences worldwide during its many tours and festival appearances.
Choreographer Mikhail Godenko brings popular Siberian folk dances to the stage, complete with 55
dancers and an array of gorgeous folk costumes. Like a fairytale revealed, vivid characters in lavishly
colorful costumes flow from one folk dance to the next in a single choreographic symphony. Godenko
crafts the dances like large choreographic canvases with many episodes and contrasting rhythms.
While paying tribute to their remote homeland, this is no mere presentation of peasant dance as
Godenko deftly infuses village ritual with modern technique. The company's orchestra utilizes folk
instruments to interweave regional music within the dance pieces. The resulting performance
showcases tradition through the eyes of a skillful choreographer and a host of disciplined artists.
Artistic Director Vladimir Moiseyev is a member of one of the most distinguished choreographic
families in Russia. In 1981, Mr. Moiseyev graduated from the Moscow State Academy of choreography
and joined the company of the State Academic Bolshoi Theatre of Russia. Since 1991, he has been a
leading character solo dancer at the Bolshoi Theatre. From 1988 to 1992, Mr. Moiseyev studied at the
Russian Academy of Theatrical Arts, from which he graduated as a producer-choreographer and in
1996, he was awarded the title of the “Honored Artist of Russia.” In 2001, he co-founded the Russian
National Ballet Theatre, where together with colleagues who share his views on choreography, Mr.
Moiseyev stages his versions of famous classical and modern ballet interpretations.
