Dr. Denise Wexler
London, Ontario
Dr. Denise Wexler is a partner in Wellington Dermatology Associates based in London, Ontario. She
graduated from the University of Western Ontario School of Medicine in 1969 and continues her affiliation
there as Adjunct Professor of Medicine. She participates fully in all aspects of dermatology - academic and
community, medical and surgical, as well as cosmetic dermatology, and is engaged in clinical trials.
Denise chose to commit to Dermatology and completed residency training in 1974 at the University of
Toronto. She became an active member of the American Academy of Dermatology in1975 and in 1980;
she became a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Dermatology Association (CDA). She
has actively served on numerous committees ever since. Committee memberships included the CDAIndustry Committee, Education Committee, Communications Council, the CDA/AAD Liaison and Interface
Committees, as well as the Membership and Awards Committee. She has also served as Secretary to the
Board of Directors and Vice President.
Denise is no stranger to the politics of medicine and Dermatology locally, provincially, nationally or
internationally.
In addition to her work with the CDA, Denise was active on the board and in executive positions with the
London and District Academy of Medicine, and was President in 1994. Since 1993 she has been active in
Ontario Medical Association business as well. She served on the Audit Committee from 1994 to 96, was
District 2 Chair from 1995 to 1998, Council Delegate from 1999 to 2008, and Secretary to the Dermatology
Section from 2006 to 2008.
Dr. Wexler has served on the Board of Examiners of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of
Canada. She has also served as Peer Assessor, Assessor for Independent Health Facilities, and a Member
of the Patient Relations Committee of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. She has also
worked with the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board as a Non-economic Loss Assessor, and consultant
for Appeal Tribunals.
As President, Dr. Wexler is dedicated to advancing the profession through increasing the visibility of
dermatologists as the only real skin experts with the public, media and governments. With health care the
number one priority of Canadians, and a new government in place opportunities to promote dermatology
will arise that the profession must act on.
Over the next year, Denise will oversee development of a longer term strategic plan in consultation
with the Board and membership. Governance, reviews of bylaws and policies, setting realistic goals and
identifying ways to measure success will be components of the new plan. Developing positions and
communicating them effectively on electronic health records, increasing the number of residencies
available to train colleagues, and moving ahead with the Skin Health Program will be strategic priorities.
She anticipates the Canadian Dermatology Association will continue to fulfill its mandate by adopting and
adapting the best ways to inform and educate dermatologists, their patients, and the public during her
tenure.
