Answer the question
Go to the VH-Dissector:
Clear the dissection area
Add the skeleton
Build the involved structure(s)
Identify the structure(s) in the transverse, sagittal and
coronal plane windows
• Save your work under Favorites.
• A preferred correct answer is provided after completion of
the exercise
Examples
1. A patient sustains a transection of the posterior cord of the brachial plexus from a knife
injury. This injury would affect all of the following muscles EXCEPT?
a)
b)
c)
d)
e)

Answer the question
Build the brachial plexus with the VH-D

Correct answer
Suprspinatus
The posterior cord of the brachial plexus gives rise to the 1) upper subscapular nerve 2) lower subscapular nerve3)
thoracodorsal nerve 4) axillary nerve 5) radial nerve. The upper subscapular nerve innervates the subscapularis. the
lower subscapular nerve innervates teres major and also subscapularis. The thoracodorsal nerve innervates latisimus
dorsi. The axillary nerve innervates deltoid and teres minor. The radial nerve innervates the triceps, brachioradialis,
wrist extensors, and finger extensors. The supraspinatus is innervated by the suprascapular nerve off the upper trunk
and therefore would not be affected by an injury to the posterior cord.

Example 2
A 46 year old woman presents with 3 months of aching pain in the medial mid thigh. One the
past month she has noticed a lump in the area of pain. An MRI is provided. It shows a tumor in
one of the thigh muscles. Which muscle is it? Which nerve innervates this muscle?
Answer the questions

Go to VH-Dissector
Clear the dissection
Add the skeleton
Add the muscle and the nerve which innervates it.
Match the transverse section of the T1 MRI to the transverse section of the VH-D.

Answer
Sartorius
The MRI shows a tumor located in the sartorius muscle, which is innervated by the femoral nerve. While the sartorius
nerve shares the same name, it does not innervate the sartorius muscle
