Tabeer (NGO) has been working towards a tuberculosis-free Pakistan for
over a year now. Our community-based approach in the treatment and
prevention of Tuberculosis has shown remarkable results. We have a 0%
defaulter rate and a 100% cure rate in our clinic.
About every three seconds, a person falls ill with tuberculosis, the vast
majority of patients live in poor countries. According to the World Health
Organization, 95% of all TB deaths occur in the developing world, resulting
in about 10 million children who lose one or both parents to tuberculosis.
Tuberculosis is a common, and in many cases lethal, infectious disease. It
usually attacks the lungs, but can also affect other parts of the body. It is
transmitted through air when people who have an active tuberculosis
infection cough or sneeze.
On 13th May, 2016 Tabeer (NGO) in collaboration with Taj Consultants Clinic
organized a Free Medical Camp.
In this camp, we offered free blood test for sugar, cholesterol and uric acid.
We also offer free sputum tests for TB.
A free tuberculosis clinic was organized as well, under the guidance of chest
consultant Dr. Syed Fasihuddin. His colleague Dr. Mohammed Afzal
Memon, a chest physician, Dr. Nausheen, a general medical officer, and
Ambreen Sadiq, staff nurse, supported him in the clinic. 101 patients were
examined on that day, out of which 20 were suspected to have
tuberculosis. Three patients were immediately started on anti-TB treatment
on strong clinical and radiological grounds. Four patients were diagnosed as
open cases and later started anti-TB treatment. The patients’ social
contacts were also screened and will be treated if necessary.
