Tuberculosis

What is Tuberculosis?
 Tuberculosis is also known as
TB
 It’s a contagious bacterial
infection spread through the
air
TB



 It mostly often strikes:
children and elderly adults
 It kills more than 2 million
people per year.
What are the symptoms?
in the lungs:
a bad cough that lasts longer than 2 weeks
pain in the chest
Other symptoms of TB:
coughing up blood
 weakness
 weight loss
 no appetite
 chills
 fever
 sweating at night
How can you get
tested?
 A TB skin test is the only way to
find out if you have TB
infection.
 You should get tested for TB if:
 You have spent time with a
person with infectious TB
 You have HIV infection or
another condition that puts you
at high risk for TB disease
