Medical projects in experimental cancer research in 2016/2017
Exosomes as carriers of activated oncogenes and their potential application
as a diagnostic and prognostic tool during cancer therapy
Our group is interested in exosomes: their function in carcinogenesis and their application as a
new, non-invasive tool for cancer diagnosis and prognosis.
http://www.uniklinik-freiburg.de/iuk/forschung/ exosomen-und-tumorbiologie.html.
Extracellular membrane vesicles (exosomes) are physiologically involved in the horizontal transfer
of nucleid acids. They play an important role in diverse physiological and pathological processes,
such as regulation of immune response, blood coagulation and tumor growth.
Exosomes isolated from patient plasma, ascites and other body fluids will be analysed.
The project aims at detection of known biomarkers as well as identification of potentially new
candidate markers in order to improve early diagnosis and prognosis in cancer.
The work will be carried out in close cooperation with clinical departments. We plan to expand on
existing cooperation by contributing to international projects focussing on the development of new
techniques to detect exosomes.
Qualification: Prospective candidates should be students of medicine and be interested in
experimental cancer research. Solid knowledge of cell and molecular biology is of benefit.
We expect highly motivated candidates interested in fundamental and applied research, who
possess the ability to work independently and in a team.
We offer highly qualified supervision, a challenging project on the frontiers of research and
technology, work in a young, dynamic team, and cooperation with partners in Freiburg, Europe and
word-wide.
Please send your application to the group leader PD Dr. Irina Nazarenko’s PA Ms Susanne Görner,
