Forget surrender. Don't worry about despair!
With clear bemusement, Adyashanti explains
the virtues of failure: When it comes to our
argument with reality, rest assured, reality will
always win. And in our quest for spiritual
enlightenment, eventually nothing works -- all
spiritual tricks of the trade will fail. This

superb, light-hearted satsang shows us in no

success. "Failure is the foundation of success

In this fascinating, no-holds-barred satsang,
Adyashanti explains where our spirituality is
really headed. Along the way, we can
experience profound realizations, bliss,
mystical states, and personal freedom. But at Audio (CD)
some point, if we're lucky, escape is no longer
an option, and we realize that our own

destined for dissolution. Recorded on October

Sylvia Boorstein brings warmth, humor, and
real-life honesty to the principles of
mindfulness and spiritual practice. In this joyfilled conversation, she shares her insights on
how we can be more accepting of the
negative patterns in our minds, and find
happiness regardless of the challenges we
face. She explains, "The point of practice is not
to keep the mind unconfused, because that's
Audio (CD)
not going to work. We're going to keep getting
confused, startled, broadsided by life all the
time. So it's not about not getting confused.
It's about recognizing that I've become
confused and then doing something to
reestablish the clarity in the mind that enables
my own innate goodness to manifest itself." 1

An urge comes up, we succumb to it, and it

repeatedly. Pema Chödrön guides us through
this "sticky feeling" and offers us tools for
learning to stay with our uneasiness, soften
our hearts toward others, and ourselves and
live a more peaceful life in the fullness of the

In Practicing Peace in Times of War Pema
Chödrön draws on Buddhist teachings to
explore the origins of aggression and war,
explaining that they lie nowhere but within
our own hearts and minds. She goes on to
explain that the way in which we as individuals
respond to challenges in our everyday lives
can mean the difference between
perpetuating a culture of violence or creating Audio (CD)
a new culture of compassion. In this
audiobook Pema Chödrön insists that our
world will begin to change when each of us,
one by one, begins to work for peace at the
level of our own behavior, our own habits of
thought and action. It’s never too late, she
tells us, to look within and discover a new
way of living.

Zen Buddhism has offered several models of
awakening and functioning in the world. The
Ox-Herding Pictures have become one of the
most influential of these paradigms in China
and Japan. Usually painted as a series of ten
pictures, this model traces the journey of
many steps from ignorance to awakening, and
shows how in the end to be in the world with
wisdom and compassion.

This is a series of five talks by Gil Fronsdal on
the Five Spiritual Faculties (Indriya). The talks
are organized on four disks, with the second
disk containing the 2nd and 3rd talks. The
Buddha was very pragmatic. He didn't
philosophize about "the nature of reality"; he
gave us simple, basic guidelines about how we
can manage the challenges and difficulties of
life. The Buddha started with the basic human
condition: we often suffer. Suffering can take
many forms: anxiety, tension, stress, grief,
fear, or dissatisfaction, to name a few. He
emphasized that suffering is workable, that
Audio (CD)
we can engage with our suffering in such a
way as to be freed from it. He described five
faculties that we need to develop to do so:
confidence (faith), effort, mindfulness,
concentration, and discernment (wisdom).
These five qualities are present in varying
degrees in almost every activity. They are
useful in developing any skill, be it playing a
musical instrument, training in a sport, or
cultivating a meditative mind. The Buddha
recognized these universal human capacities
and taught us how to use them to develop the
craft of meditation.

Goldstein clarifies the Buddha’s initial
declaration of the "direct path" to awakening.
Through the wisdom of Buddhist masters of
ancient and modern times and the expertise
of his own 40-year study and practice, he
shares the subtle nuances of each key term
derived from the original Pali. Where do you
find the ardency to sustain and balance your
efforts along the path? How do you cultivate
the breadth of mindfulness that makes any
spiritual undertaking possible? What
strengthens your perception of
impermanence— both internally and
externally?

There are three rules for living a life rich with
meaning and purpose, Ram Dass has said: "Be
kind. Be kind. And be kind." On Cultivating the
Heart of Compassion, this legendary explorer
of Eastern and Western traditions cuts
through to the truth about where spiritual
awakening really starts: your own heart.
Looking back at his own search for the seeds
of wisdom over the past thirty years, Ram
Dass makes sense out of a world where
Audio (tape)
terrible suffering coexists with sublime
beauty. What can we do to find our purpose,
and pursue the enlightened state of mind?
Through trust in your own intuitive heart, he
teaches, you can experience your life - and all
the people and events in it - as a remarkable
"curriculum" for your spiritual development.
This is the true spiritual path open to
everybody today.
What is grief?/ can it be used to find deeper
truth?/ grief as loss of a dream; as breakdown
of expectations; as appreciation beyond
separation; as context for looking at suffering/

On Tibetan Wisdom for Living and Dying,
Rinpoche presents a grand and transforming
vision of life and death, introducing you to
Tibetan practices that can help anyone live
fully, while preparing for the extraordinary
adventure that death offers each one of us.
What we call "life" and "death," Rinpoche
teaches, are merely shades of the same

unbroken wholeness. By daring to see clearly
the truth of our lives, and by exploring the
part of us that is changeless and eternal, we
can face the last moment of life without fear.
Masterfully taught, Tibetan Wisdom for Living
and Dying is both a guide to this "inner
technology," and a sacred document for
listeners of all faiths and traditions.
