Arkema exhibits at CPhI 2006, Paris,
from October 3 to 5, 2006, Hall 5, Stand 5E18
Arkema officially launches its new organic oxidation catalyst, Oxynitrox® S100, at the CPhI 2006 tradeshow in Paris,
from October 3rd to 5th.
A world leading producer in a number of fine chemicals sectors, Arkema also presents over 20 products used in
Cosmetics and Polymer manufacture, as well as in the Pharmaceutical industry in which they are proving effective
building block reagents in the manufacture of a very wide range of therapeutic products, while also promoting the
synthesis of new drugs.
-
Oxynitrox® S100, a new totally organic oxidation catalyst, with applications primarily in the pharmaceuticals,
cosmetics and fragrance markets.
-
Hydrazine Hydrate and Derivatives - salts and triazoles -, to enhance your activity.
Triazoles are synthesis intermediates derived from hydrazine hydrate. Arkema currently markets four products: 1,2,4triazole, 1,2,4-triazole sodium salt, 4-amino-1,2,4-triazole, and 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole, which have a number of
applications in the synthesis of active ingredients for pharmaceutical, veterinary and phytosanitary products.
Aminoguanidine Bicarbonate (AGBC) offers the pharmaceutical industry a high purity product that allows producers to
skip a step in synthesis processes, and helps minimize effluents. AGBC is ideally suited to the synthesis of
antidepressants and antineoplastic medications.
-
Specialty Thiochemicals, with a complete portfolio of organosulfur derivatives used to produce molecules and
countless active ingredients across all therapeutic fields, ranging from everyday fungicides, antibiotics,
antihypertensives, anti-ulcer drugs, anti-inflammatories etc., to well-known antivirals.
Sodium Methyl Mercaptan (SMM) is available in wide-ranging grades as aqueous or methanol solutions, in drum or in
bulk, for pharmaceutical and chemical synthesis.
Thioglycolic Acid and Derivatives are used in the cosmetics market for cold permanent wave preparations and
depilatory creams and lotions.
An extensive Sulfonyl range comprises Methane Sulfonic Acid (MSA) and Methane Sulfonic Chloride (MSC), as well as
other Alkane Sulfonyls. Sulfonyls are used in various markets, including pharmaceuticals and esterification catalysis.
Dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO), a polar aprotic solvent, unlabeled, and safe for man and the environment, is very effective in
organic fine chemical and polymer synthesis. Recyclable, Arkema’s DMSO is widely used as a reaction solvent
because of its effectiveness and beneficial toxicological properties.

Specialty and Alkyl Amines (AA), Alkyl Alkanolamines (AAA) and Alkyl Hydroxylamines (DEHA) represent a
comprehensive product portfolio for a wide range of pharmaceutical and cosmetics applications.
Among its range of specialty amines, Arkema has developed a highly selective amine, EDIPA (ethyl di-isopropylamine)
to fulfill the specific requirements of manufacturers in the field of pharmaceutical synthesis. EDIPA is particularly
effective in alkylation, acylation and elimination reactions, coproducing hydracids (HCl, HBr, etc.). This tertiary amine is
neither nucleophilic nor sensitive to alkylation. These properties allow EDIPA to neutralize hydracids during synthesis
without affecting the molecules, thereby improving productivity.
-
Boron Trifluoride gas and complexes: your worldwide catalyst!
BF3 gas and complexes are used in the synthesis of lubricant additives, resins, fragrances and flavors, and
pharmaceutical intermediates (as catalysts for antibiotics like cephalosporins and quinolones).
As a global supplier, Arkema is committed to providing high quality products and services to its customers all over the
world.
-
Through its subsidiary Ceca, Arkema also offers a range of Clarcel® filter aid and Acticarbone® activated
carbon.
One of the major applications of activated carbon is the elimination of impurities in the synthesis of pharmaceutical
intermediates.
Diatomite, perlite and precipitated silica from the Clarcel® range are used both in the filtration of pharmaceuticals and as
a functional additive in diverse applications ranging from cosmetics and dental impression to toothpaste and perfume
manufacture.
A global chemical player, Arkema consists of 3 related and integrated business segments:
- Vinyl Products: Chlorochemicals and PVC, Vinyl Compounds, Pipes and Profiles (Alphacan),
- Industrial Chemicals: Acrylics, PMMA (Altuglas International), Thiochemicals, Fluorochemicals, Hydrogen Peroxide,
- Performance Products: Technical Polymers, Specialty Chemicals (Ceca), Organic Peroxides, Additives, Urea Formaldehyde
Resins, Agrochemicals (Cerexagri).
Arkema develops its activities by combining safety and environmental protection, client proximity, industrial reliability, and
competitiveness.
Present in over 40 countries with 18,400 employees, Arkema achieves sales of 5.7 billion euros.
With its 6 research centers in France, the United States and Japan, and internationally recognized brands, Arkema holds
leadership positions in its principal markets.

Arkema officially presents its new organic oxidation catalyst:
Oxynitrox® S100
Arkema officially presents at the CPhI 2006 tradeshow in Paris its new organic oxidation catalyst
Oxynitrox® S100 produced industrially by a patented process. As the result of Arkema’s innovation, this
green oxidation catalyst makes its own contribution to the demands of modern chemistry which makes
environmental protection a priority.
The Oxynitrox® S100 catalyst offers countless prospects in fine chemicals, in particular with its capacity to steer the selective
oxidation of primary alcohols into aldehydes. It can also lead in a fully controlled mode to the formation of corresponding
acids. Additionally, secondary alcohols can be converted into ketones.
An entirely organic product, Oxynitrox® S100 contains no metallic element, but proves as effective as other traditional
metallic oxidation catalysts based on ruthenium, molybdenum, silver or cerium. Oxynitrox® S100 has the chemical structure
of a nitroxide type polymer, and its development is a logical reflection of Arkema’s desire to offer a comprehensive
technological platform based on nitroxyl radicals and their applications. Its specific polymer structure makes it recyclable. It
is easy to separate from the other reaction products, and can perform in consecutive oxidation reactions without losing any
of its efficiency. Oxynitrox® S100 also affords savings in energy consumption as it enables optimum performance at ambient
temperature.
Oxynitrox® S100 has already been successfully tested in the oxidation of various alcohols such as octanol-1, octanol-2,
cyclo-octanol, 1-phenyl ethanol, and benzyl alcohol.
The applications of Oxynitrox® S100 primarily concern the pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, flavor and fragrance, food, and
electronics markets. This product can also play a role in the modification of cellulose and its derivatives.
Oxynitrox® is a registered trademark belonging to the Arkema Group.
