Jack L. Ballinger, 79, formerly of Houston, Texas, died at
Hospice of Hamilton on December 4. He was born in
Hamilton on December 14, 1930, the son of John and Emily
(Coyle) Ballinger. Jack graduated from Hanover High School
in 1948, then served in the US Army in Japan for 2 years and
in the reserves, receiving an honorable discharge in 1957. He
attended Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee. He was a
member of the VFW, The American Legion, and the Graphic
Arts International Union.
He worked at the Nashville Tennessean and the Houston
Chronicle as a lithographer and photoengraver, retiring in
2003. Active in the labor movement, he served as vice
president and then president of the GAIU local #265. Jack
was an avid photographer and a long time member of the
Houston Camera Club. He was an outdoorsman, nature lover,
and bird watcher, and for several years volunteered at the
Houston Arboretum as a guide and children's instructor.
He leaves his sister Shirley Henson of Hamilton, brother
Glen (Carole) Ballinger of Seven Mile, nieces Jayne
Giuliano, Carolyn Stoll and Karen Ballinger, nephews John
Stricker, Mike Lunsford, Tim Lunsford and Ken Ballinger
and several grand nieces and nephews, life-long dear friends
Mary and Jim Wells and special friend Sally Sparks. He was
preceded in death by his parents, his twin sister Jean
Lunsford, sisters Audrey Walsh and JoAnn Stricker and
nephews Joel and Daniel Lunsford.
Visitation will be held at the Avance Funeral Home, 4976
Winton Road in Fairfield on Thursday, December 9 from 9
AM to 11 AM with the funeral to follow. The Rev. William
Brantingham will officiate.
In lieu of flowers donations in Jack's memory can be made to
Hospice of Cincinnati, 4310 Cooper Rd., Cincinnati, OH
45242.
