Zephyranthes atamsco
Atamsco Lily, Rain Lily
Zephyranthes atamasco is a lilylike plant, native to
the Coastal Plain region. The flowers are white,
sometimes with a pinkish tinge and first appear in
late winter and continue into mid spring.
The
flowers are on an elongate flower stalk separate from
the leaves. Flowers have 6 petals and an elongate
pistil. The base of each flower is surrounded with
elongate green bracts. Leaves are elongate, grasslike,
thickened, and slightly concave. The plant arises
from a bulb. Atamasco Lily is a species of wet
habitats, including swamps and marshes.
