Phaius tankervilliae
• Use: Chinese Orchid, or Nun's Cap Orchid, or Veiled Nun's Orchid, or
Red Crane Orchid, or Swamp Lily is a tropical terrestrial plants with
showy hooded flowers that lasts for about a month. The flowers are excellent for floral arrangements. The beautiful large pleated leaves lends
a tropical appearance to my landscaping garden. Nun's Cap Orchid is a
perennial plant that is low maintenance and grows easily.
• Exposure/Soil: Partial sun outside and high light inside. Use slow release or water soluble fertilizer. Keep soil moist watering under leaves
and flowers for best results.
• Growth: Full, well branched plants grow QUICKLY to 1-2’ tall and wide
in one season..
• Hardiness: 9-10 Houseplant; Tolerates to 35 degrees. Bring plant
• indoors and place it in a sunny window during winter.
• Foliage: Three-foot tall sword shaped leaves are joined by flowers in the
late spring.
• Flower: The flowers open sequentially on the spike lasting 4 to 6 weeks.
The flowers have yellow-brown petals with a white back, rose lip with a
dark throat.
