Kinnikinnick: Leaf spot
Use Integrated Pest Management (IPM) for successful plant problem management.
Biology
Leaf spot is a fungal disease. Symptoms include development of brown, necrotic spots on leaves. The
fungus most likely overwinters on infected leaves and possibly on twigs. The disease is favored by cool,
wet conditions and is spread by splashing water.
Management Options
Non-Chemical Management
~ Rake and destroy fallen leaves.
~ Remove and destroy infected leaves from plants, where practical.
~ Avoid overhead irrigation.
~ Space plantings and prune to improve air circulation. Avoid planting in moist, shady areas if leaf spot is a
problem.
